Richmond Flying Squirrels unveil family-friendly amenities at CarMax Park

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The Richmond Flying Squirrels shared new family-friendly amenities at CarMax Park, which feature a playground and a new seating area.

On Wednesday, March 4, the Richmond Flying Squirrels announced in a press release that there will be several new amenities at CarMax Park for families of all ages.

The new park will feature an inclusive playground, a family-friendly seating area and a lactation suite. Bon Secours, the official healthcare partner of the Flying Squirrels, helped to provide these new features, per a release.

“When designing CarMax Park, we focused on making the venue an inviting place for families,” said Lou DiBella, the managing partner for the Flying Squirrels. “Our partnership with Bon Secours has been instrumental in bringing that vision to life. From an inclusive playground experience to comfortable gathering spaces and amenities like The Lawn and the Nursing Nest, we want parents and kids to feel welcome and relaxed when they come to CarMax Park. These
additions reflect our commitment to creating a ballpark that is family-friendly and fun for everyone.”

The Bon Secours Base Camp & Lawn will feature a playground and seating area that aims to support families at the ballpark. The playground allows children of all ages and abilities to play, with certain structures for ages 2 to 5 and specific areas for ages 5 to 12.

Several features on the playground were designed by KOMPAN, an Austin, Texas-based commercial playground equipment manufacturer, that allow children of all abilities to play.

The Bon Secours Base Camp & Lawn is located directly across from the concourse, serving as a terraced turf seating area close to the playground that provides families the opportunity to watch the game, according to the release.

Tickets for the lawn begin at $10 and are available for purchase for each individual game.

The ballpark also offers the Bon Secours Nursing Nest, which is a private space for nursing parents and caregivers. A seating and diaper changing area will also be open for all games and events at CarMax Park, officials said.

“At Bon Secours, we recognize that the factors driving individual and community health extend far beyond the walls of a hospital. We are proud to provide quality, compassionate care for patients and families across every stage of life, and supporting spaces like the Base Camp & Lawn and Nursing Nest reflects our commitment to caring for the whole person, not only in our hospitals and clinics but throughout the communities we serve,” said Ryan Stuhlreyer, the vice president of service line strategy for Bon Secours in Richmond. “We look forward to partnering with the Richmond Flying Squirrels to build a healthier community while connecting community members to health resources throughout the year, both on and off the field.”
