Richmond Growers Market debuts in Southside, welcoming healthier food options
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- A new farmers market is setting up shop in Richmond’s Southside.
The Richmond Growers Market will make its debut on Saturday, May 3, at Legend Brewing Co., located at 321 S. 7th St. in Manchester. The market will run every Saturday until Oct. 25, from 8 a.m. to noon.
According to the organizers of the RVA Growers Market, the team aims to serve the Manchester, Blackwell, Swansboro and Hull Street neighborhoods by providing access to healthier foods in areas often referred to as "food deserts."
In its initial season, organizers anticipate around 20 vendors every week. Shoppers can expect a variety of offerings, including locally grown produce, baked goods, eggs and dairy, meats, prepared foods and made-to-order drinks and snacks.
In addition, the market will feature weekly programming and events such as yoga, children's activities, crafts and more.
The Richmond Growers Market is organized by Marie D’Angelo of Richmond Makers Market and Mo Karnage of Karnage Construction. The two, also behind the upcoming Highland Park coffee shop and bookstore By Any Beans Necessary, are combining their ventures under the brand Sparkle and Sweat Productions.
