Richmond looks to turn 2 city sites into affordable housing developments
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The City of Richmond is looking to transform two city-owned sites into affordable housing developments in the Shockoe Bottom and Manchester neighborhoods.
Richmond's Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) announced in a release on Thursday, Nov. 6, that it has requested proposals for two city-owned surplus property sites on 212 N. 18th St. and 911 and 913 Hull St.
The city said it has plans to transform the two sites into "quality affordable housing through the creative and intentional use of surplus properties."
Surplus property sites are properties that are no longer needed by the city. The 212 N. 18th St. location is currently a city-owned parking lot, the release said.
According to the HCD, the proposals will be evaluated by several factors, including:
- Conceptual design
- Project financing
- Community benefit
- Demonstrated experience
The city will accept proposals until 3 p.m. on Feb. 24, 2026. Click here for more information.
