Richmond man shot, killed in Gilpin Court after family ‘dispute’

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- A 37-year-old Richmond man was shot and killed at a Gilpin Court apartment building after what police called a "dispute between family members."
At about 2:25 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 8, officers with the Richmond Police Department were called to an apartment building in the 1100 block of St. Paul Street for report of a person shot.
When they arrived, officers found 37-year-old Mario Swann, of Richmond, down and unresponsive on the second-floor landing of the apartment building. He had been shot.
Swann was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.
Police said a "dispute between family members" led to the shooting.

Later Friday evening, hours after the initial incident, officers arrested 34-year-old Jerome Lucas, of Richmond, in connection with Swann's death. He has been charged with shooting into an occupied dwelling and possessing a firearm as a convicted felon.
"Additional charges are pending," police said.
