Richmond police details reports of vandalism during ‘No Kings Day’ protest
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Richmond Police Department (RPD) is investigating a report of vandalism during the “no kings” protest on Saturday.
According to RPD, from 6:15 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, a large group of people who had gathered at Virginia Capitol Square left that area and walked on city streets to Kanawha Plaza.
The rally was part of several nationwide protests against the Trump administration.
The large group walked on roadways causing traffic to not be able to use those roadways for a short period.
The majority of the group left from Kanawha Plaza – while about 350 people continued walking in the city streets, eventually returning to Kanawha Plaza. They left from the plaza at approximately 8:40 p.m., officials said.
While there were no reports of damages from the initial group, RPD is investigating reports of damage caused by the later group, with spray paint graffiti appearing on two buildings.
One of those buildings was Delta Hotel on Canal Street. The manager showed pictures of graffiti that said things like "FIGHT BACK", "RVA LOVES L.A.," "FREE GAZA" and one showing a target around the word "ICE."
The manager also shared a video showing two masked suspects spray painting these phrases on the Delta Hotel.
Anyone with information on damages caused by demonstrators is asked to call Richmond Police at 804-646-5112.
