Richmond proclaimed ‘LGBTQ+ friendly’ community

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The City of Richmond has been officially recognized as an "LGBTQ+ friendly" community.

The joint proclamation, signed by Richmond City Council and Mayor Danny Avula, was posted on Tuesday, June 10. It states that the city is officially considered a safe place for members of the LGBTQ+ community to live their lives openly without fear of harm.

Each of us should be able to love who we love without the fear of prejudice, discrimination, violence or exclusion based on gender identity or sexual orientation," the proclamation reads.

The document listed the reasons for this recognition, as well as the history of how Richmond has supported the LGBTQ+ community over the past decade.
