Richmond Public Schools to close for remainder of week
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Richmond Public Schools (RPS) announced on Wednesday that they will be closed for the rest of the week due to the ongoing water issues and lengthy restoration process. According to an announcement from Superintendent Jason Kamras, as of Wednesday, Jan. 8, all schools associated with RPS will be closed for the remainder of this week due to necessary water and plumbing tests. Kamras said that it will take time to conduct testing for school boilers and plumbing facilities to ensure that they have safe, drinkable and usable water for returning students and staff. As of the time of reporting, Kamras also said that he believes schools will be able to reopen on Monday. To view the full message from Kamras and RPS, click here. This announcement comes several hours after Richmond Mayor Danny Avula provided an update on the water restoration efforts stating that he believes it's unlikely the boil water advisory will be lifted before Friday.
