Richmond residents can recycle electronics, hazardous waste at E-Cycle Day

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The City of Richmond is hosting an E-Cycle Day where residents can ensure electronics, documents and other hazardous household waste items are safely disposed of.

Richmond's E-Cycle Day will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, at 1710 Robin Hood Rd., near Arthur Ashe Boulevard.

According to the city, the event's purpose is to provide an efficient way to recycle paper and electronic goods, while also keeping hazardous waste out of the city's waterways, streams and rivers.

The drive-thru event is open to all city residents with proof of address. Volunteers will be on-site to collect items from vehicles. Business or commercial items will not be accepted.

The following items will be accepted at the upcoming E-Cycle event:

Paper Documents for Shredding

  • Up to five boxes of paper documents are permitted
  • Ensure to take out all binders, staples and clips

Electronics

  • Hard drive or CPU computer systems, cables, wires, keyboards, mice, speakers
  • VCRs, camcorders, stereos, any type of phone
  • TVs, computer monitors and printers

Hazardous Household Waste Items

  • Pesticides, herbicides
  • Bug spray
  • Rodent poison
  • Oil-based paints -- latex and water-based paints will not be accepted for collection
