Richmond Symphony to kick off new season with concert featuring Grammy-nominated Cody Fry

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The Richmond Symphony's 2025-26 season will kick off next week with a concert at the Altria Theater featuring a Grammy-nominated guest artist.

The season-opening concert for the Richmond Symphony will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13, at the Altria Theater and feature guest artist Cody Fry -- a Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter and composer.

The Richmond Symphony said Fry is known for his "orchestral pop sound and emotionally rich compositions."

Fry’s music career reportedly skyrocketed after he gained national attention as a contender on the 14th season of "American Idol."

Since then, Fry has released seven solo albums and performed at sold-out concerts in major venues across the United States, according to the Richmond Symphony.

Fry has achieved viral success with songs including “I Hear a Symphony” and “Underground,” as well as orchestral covers of pop classics.

In 2021, Fry received a Grammy Award nomination in the category of Best Arrangement, Instrumental and Vocals for his cover of The Beatles’ song “Eleanor Rigby,” and again in 2025 for his arrangement of “The Sound of Silence” by Simon and Garfunkel.

The Richmond Symphony said audiences can expect sweeping arrangements, viral hits and the "full sonic power" of a live symphony orchestra during the Sept. 13 concert.
