Richmond to host zoning and housing panel discussion

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The City of Richmond will host a zoning and housing panel discussion from 7 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11, at Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School.

The event will be moderated by the principal and founder of Brick & Story LaToya Thomas and will feature several panelists, according to a social post from the city's Facebook page. The following are the panelists currently set to speak:

  • Marion Cake, Vice President, Affordable Housing Development of project:HOMES
  • Thomas Fitzpatrick, Executive Director of HOME of VA
  • Peter Tatian, Senior Fellow, and Research Director for Urban-Greater DC of Urban Institute
  • Toccarra Nicole Thomas, Director of Land Use and Development of Smart Growth America

The event will see Thomas and panelists discuss the economics of housing, housing attainability in the city and the Code Refresh process and its implications for Richmond's future development.

This comes after the city hosted three open houses last month to have the public become involved with both planning staff and members of the Code Refresh consultant team. According to the city's website, these open houses aimed to inform the public on the draft pattern book, potential zoning districts and how the Zone Code Refresh functions.
