Richmond’s East End to benefit from $4 million roadway upgrade project
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Beginning in early July, the city of Richmond's Department of Public Works will start working on a $4 million roadway improvement project in the East End to enhance safety and traffic flow.
According to DPW, this roadway improvement project will revise and reconstruct the intersection of East Main Street and Williamsburg Avenue between South 31st Street, East Main and Pear Street.

Starting on June 20, the construction crew will start placing notification signs alongside the corridors to notify drivers and residents of the upcoming project and closure.
The city said the westbound lanes of Williamsburg Avenue will be closed between South 31st Street and the intersection of East Main Street. In addition, there will be temporary closures in place at the intersection of South 31st Street and Williamsburg Road.
The improvements on East Main and Williamsburg Avenue will include:
- Realigning the intersection by revising the traffic flow from East Main Street to Williamsburg Road
- Installation of a new traffic signal with pedestrian crossing buttons
- Installation and reconstruction of sidewalks and ADA accessibility
- Installation of new street lights, pavement, signs and markings
- Improving drainage
- Widening Williamsburg Avenue
