Road closures coming to Hanover for Mechanicsville Christmas Parade

HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Several Hanover County roadways will be shut down for the Mechanicsville Christmas Parade on Sunday.

From 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 7, the Mechanicsville Christmas Parade will light up Hanover, spreading holiday cheer throughout the downtown Mechanicsville area.

To allow for the parade to proceed safely, multiple closures will be put in place.

Starting at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Hanover Green Drive will be limited to only parade traffic. Starting at 1:30 p.m., traffic along the parade's route -- which weaves throughout downtown Mechanicsville -- will be closed.

This includes the following roads:

  • Signal Hill Road
  • Strain Avenue
  • Hillis Way
  • Atlee Road
  • Business Road 360
  • Elm Drive

These streets will reopen at 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

"It is anticipated the area will be congested with both pedestrian and vehicular traffic for a significant period of time before and after the parade," the Hanover County Sheriff's Office said. "Please plan your travels accordingly. It is the goal of the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office to facilitate the safe flow of traffic for this special event in such a way that causes minimal inconveniences to our citizens."
