Rockwood Nature Center in Chesterfield to close until March for animals’ winter hibernation
CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Rockwood Nature Center in Chesterfield County will close to the public for a few months beginning in late December to allow for the animals' winter hibernation.
According to a social media post by Chesterfield County Parks and Recreation, Rockwood Nature Center will close to the public beginning on Monday, Dec. 29 as the animals begin their winter hibernation.
Folks were encouraged to still visit the center during its last weekend open on Dec. 27 and Dec. 28.
Despite the closure, classes and programs held by Chesterfield County Parks and Recreation will continue, and registration for winter/spring 2026 programs is open.
The post added that the nature center will return to normal hours on March 6 to welcome the springtime.
The nature center is located at 3401 Courthouse Rd. in North Chesterfield, and is the only county-operated nature center in Chesterfield.
