Roughly half of detainees at both Farmville and Caroline detention centers are not criminals, according to ICE’s data

PRINCE EDWARD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Roughly half of those detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at the Farmville and Caroline County detention centers as of June 9 did not have a criminal record, according to the agency's data.

According to data collected by ICE on June 9, there were a total of 294 people detained at the Caroline County Detention Center. Of those, 139 people were recorded as being convicted criminals, and 155 did not have a criminal record, data showed.

At the Farmville Detention Center, located in Prince Edward County, on June 9, there were a total of 550 detainees -- including 293 convicted criminals and 257 non-criminals, according to ICE.

Across both facilities, data showed that 49% of total detainees were not criminals.

The majority of detainees at both detention centers were considered by the agency to pose no ICE threat level.

ICE’s webpage for its statistics on detainees noted that data will fluctuate as it continues to be collected until it is locked at the end of the fiscal year.
