Safely recycle hazardous waste, shred documents at upcoming Hanover event

(WRIC) -- Hanover County residents can safely recycle hazardous waste items and shred documents at a free event on Saturday. Certain household waste products like oil-based paints and pesticides need to be disposed of in a particular way. This county-sponsored event, scheduled for 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Nov. 2, will provide an opportunity for Hanover residents to get rid of such products safely. Liquids, aerosols and solids will be accepted free of cost, though there is a five-gallon maximum per resident. Accepted materials include: Oil-based paints Pesticides and herbicides Household cleaners Flammables Corrosive liquids Solids, including pool/spa chemicals Acids Drain cleaner Art and hobby supplies Items like batteries, tube fluorescent light bulbs, explosives and radioactive materials will not be accepted. Additionally, secure document shredding services will be available. Residents may only bring enough to fill four 10" x 12" x 18" boxes, paper bags or equivalent.
