Same-day registration clears the way for many Richmond voters this year
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Same-day voter registration is making it possible for many Richmond residents to cast a ballot this 2024 General Election, general registrar Keith Balmer confirmed. As originally reported by the Virginia Mercury, by early afternoon on Tuesday, Nov. 5, just about 10% of votes cast at Richmond's Main Street Station were made possible by same-day voter registration. Same-day registration was rolled out across the Commonwealth in time for the 2022 General Election following an act of the General Assembly, according to the Virginia Department of Elections.
