Scammers pose as Chesterfield Sheriff’s Office sergeant and target residents

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The Chesterfield County Sheriff's Office is warning residents of scammers posing as a sergeant.

Several people in the area have been receiving calls made by individuals posing under Sergeant Chapman claiming to be a sheriff's office employee, within the last two weeks, according to a social post from the sheriff's office.

The Sheriff’s Office assures residents that it would “NEVER” instruct a person to pay money to make a charge “go away” and request that residents meet with a deputy and pay using a pre-paid card.
