Severe storms leave behind closures, clean-up across Central Virginia

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Thursday's storms left a big clean-up project behind for Friday, with felled trees, traffic light outages and closures across Central Virginia.

The storms hit on Thursday, June 19 and caused heavy damage throughout the region.

The Twin Hickory Area Library in Henrico County was forced to close all day Friday, June 20 due to a power outage.

Henrico was hit especially hard by power outages, with nearly 40,000 homes and businesses without power at the peak of the storm event.

In a statement, the Henrico County Public Library system said it "greatly appreciates current efforts to restore power to Twin Hickory Library in the aftermath of yesterday’s strong storms."

"We will share any updates to the library’s website henricolibrary.org as soon as we have them," it said.

A traffic light outage at Brook Road, Lakeside Avenue and Lakeside Boulevard had officers with the Henrico County Police Division directing traffic Friday afternoon.

An electricity repair crew and a Dominion Energy truck were seen nearby.

While some debris could still be seen in the road, much was moved to curbs or lawns -- like one felled tree near Brook Road.

Take precautions on the roads as debris continues to be cleaned up.
