Severe thunderstorm warning issued for much of Central Virginia

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Much of Central Virginia is under a severe thunderstorm warning Monday evening.

Per the National Weather Service (NWS), a severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for the following Central Virginia localities until 10:30 p.m. on Monday, March 16:

  • Charles City County
  • Essex County
  • King and Queen County
  • King William County
  • Lancaster County
  • Middlesex County
  • New Kent County
  • Northumberland County
  • Richmond County

A severe thunderstorm warning means that a severe thunderstorm or storms has been spotted within or near the impacted areas.

These storms can produce high-speed winds, which can damage trees and power lines.
