‘She was an amazing person’: Princess Diana’s personal hairdresser, museum curator give sneak peak ahead of Richmond event

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Ahead of Saturday's event in Richmond honoring the life and legacy of Princess Diana, her personal hairdresser and the founder of The Princess Diana Museum paid a visit to the 8News studio with some special items.

The event will be held just before the 28th anniversary of Princess Diana's death, at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 30, at the Dominion Energy Center’s Bob and Mooney Hall, located at 600 E. Grace St. in Richmond. Doors open at noon, according to organizers.

Attendees will hear from Richard Dalton, world-renowned hair stylist and personal hairdresser to Princess Diana for over 10 years, as well as Renae Plant, founder of The Princess Diana Museum.

The pair will share insights from their new book, “It’s All About the Hair: My Decade with Diana, H.R.H. Princess of Wales,” including untold stories and personal recollections of Dalton’s time with Princess Diana.

Ahead of the event, Dalton and Plant visited the 8News studio on Friday, Aug. 29, displaying Princess Diana's iconic black sheep sweater as well as a dress that only Dalton saw her wear.

Plant referred to the sweater as "the most famous sweater in the entire world," which they do not normally touch without gloves, and which Princess Diana reportedly wore in 1983.

"Over here, we have the Catherine Walker falcon dress, and Richard is the only one who got to see her in it because she's never been photographed in it," Plant said.

Dalton described his relationship with Princess Diana, during which he said he got to know her very well.

"More or less, every day I saw her, sometimes twice a day," Dalton said. "I traveled the world with her. I was also in the background, but she was the most amazing, amazing person. Very funny, great sense of humor, and we just had a great time."

Folks looking to attend the event at Dominion Energy Center can grab their tickets online ahead of the event or at the door.
