Spanberger rallies alongside Buttigieg, Bill Nye in Charlottesville as Election Day approaches

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WRIC) -- Bill Nye the Science Guy and former U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg joined Abigail Spanberger in Charlottesville on Tuesday to encourage voters to choose her as Virginia's next governor.

The evening of Tuesday, Oct. 21 -- just two weeks before Election Day on Tuesday, Nov. 4 -- Democratic gubernatorial candidate Spanberger held a "Get Out The Vote" in Charlottesville.

Spanberger outlined her policy priorities on education, the economy and more to those in attendance -- all while encouraging them to get out and vote by Election Day.

"What we will do this November is not vote against something, but we will vote for the policies that we believe in," she said.

When speaking at the rally, Buttigieg said that he believed this election's impacts reached beyond Virginia and across the nation.

“You know what a difference a truly outstanding governor could make -- and realize that we don’t have to wait around, because the change that we have been waiting for starts right here, right now, in the Commonwealth of Virginia," he said.

8News reached out to Spanberger's opponent, Republican gubernatorial nominee and current lieutenant governor Winsome Earle-Sears, for comment on this rally.

“Imagine being so scared that you have to bring out the guy who couldn’t fix traffic and Bill Nye … like anyone in Virginia was waiting for your childhood TV hero to show up," a spokesperson for her campaign said.
