Speed camera warning period ends in King William County school zones
KING WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- King William County residents should expect to receive citations in the mail this week should they exceed the speed limit in school zones, as the 30-day warning period has ended.
On Wednesday, Sept. 17, citations will begin to be mailed to drivers who violate the speed limit within school zones in King William County, per a social post from the King William County Sheriff's Office.
According to authorities, speeders will begin to receive summonses in the mail on Sept. 17, which will include a fine. However, they do not come with points against your license or insurance penalties.
In August, an automated photo speed enforcement program launched at King William County High School and Hamilton Holmes Middle School, according to the sheriff's office.
These new speed cameras, which are activated on school days, will identify drivers going 10 mph or more over the speed limit.
The initial warning period began on Aug. 18, during which non-compliant drivers were not fined for speeding. Instead, they received a warning in the mail.
"Our goal is to increase safety for students, parents, teachers, and the motoring public traveling through the King William School zone," authorities said.
