Speed limit lowered on section of Midlothian Turnpike in Richmond, effective immediately

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The speed limit on a section of Midlothian Turnpike in Richmond has been lowered, effective immediately, according to the city's Department of Public Works.
In the afternoon of Thursday, Sept. 4, the department announced that the speed limit on Midlothian Turnpike between Belt Boulevard and Hull Street has been lowered from 35 mph to 30 mph, effective immediately.
Officials said new speed limit signage will be installed along the corridor over the next few days to reflect this change.
According to the city's Department of Public Works, the speed limit adjustment is part of the city’s Vision Zero initiative, which aims to eliminate all traffic deaths and serious injuries while increasing safe, healthy and equitable mobility for all.
According to the city's Vision Zero Dashboard, between 2020 and 2025, there have been 15 crashes reported on or near that section of Midlothian Turnpike, with one of those crashes being deadly.
