StormTracker 8: A Tornado Watch is in effect until 1 a.m. tonight

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) - A tornado watch has been issued for several counties and cities across Central Virginia, until 1:00 a.m. tonight. A tornado or two is possible in these areas, along with possible damaging wind gusts and hail. Take any warnings very seriously in these areas.

A VIPIR Alert remains in effect through late this Sunday evening for the potential of strong to severe storms. Again, damaging wind gusts and heavy downpours are remaining the primary threats. Secondary threats are a tornado or two remaining possible and small hail as well. Watches and warnings are remaining a possibility, so please take any warnings very seriously if we get any issued the next several hours.

Our Sunday night into Monday morning, will bring us showers and storms through 11 p.m. tonight, with again some of these storms possibly being strong to potentially severe, as a strong surface cold front will be sweeping through the 8 News viewing area on this Sunday night. Temperatures will drop back down to around 50 degrees by Monday morning under mostly cloudy skies and the shower and storm activity diminishing, especially after 11 p.m. tonight. It will remain breezy to windy at times through Monday morning, as the cold front sweeps through the state.

Monday is St. Patrick’s Day, and it will be a cooler day, with highs around 60 degrees under partly cloudy skies and breezy conditions from time to time.

Tuesday will be a beautiful day, with highs 65 to 70 degrees under sunny skies.

Wednesday will be another nice day, with highs 70 to 75 degrees under partly sunny skies.

Thursday is the first day of spring, and we will see rain showers during the PM hours, push on through Central Virginia, under mostly cloudy skies and highs 65 to 70 degrees.

Friday to end out the work week, will be a cooler day with highs 55 to 60 degrees under partly sunny skies.

Next weekend, is looking very nice both days, now, under partly sunny skies all weekend long and comfortable afternoon temperatures in the 60s.

The following Monday, we may see some rain showers possible affecting the viewing area.
