StormTracker 8: Multiple Watches in place through this evening.
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) - A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for the majority of Central Virginia today until 6 p.m. We also have a tornado watch for southeastern Virginia until 8 p.m. All of these counties and cities could see warnings being issued. Please take any warnings very seriously.
A VIPIR ALERT is in effect today due to a line of strong to severe storms moving in from west to east from mid-morning through mid to late afternoon. All types of severe weather are possible. We are primarily concerned about damaging wind gusts of 60 mph wind gusts or higher with any storms that develop today, that would prompt severe thunderstorm warnings.
Cloudy skies are overhead this morning and it is muggy with temperatures in the middle 50s. Cloudy skies continue and showers/storms start to move into the western part of the state by 9-10am. Far western counties could start to see storms as early as 10am this morning and storms will push from west to east as we head towards lunch. The best time frame to see storms in the metro area is from 12pm – 3pm. Storms will be east of Richmond by 4pm this afternoon.
The main threat is damaging winds in excess of 60mph, but all types of severe weather are possible. Heavy downpours will move in, but these storms are fast moving so I am not expecting any major flooding concerns. Although smaller, we have the risk of isolated hail and a few spin up tornados.
Outside of any storms that push through it will be a windy day with winds gusting 35-45mph at times. Look for highs in the middle to upper 60s.

Tonight, showers end and clouds thin with lows dropping into the low 40s.
Quiet weather moves back in for the end of the work week, however tomorrow will be windy. High temperatures Thursday and Friday will be in the middle to upper 50s under partly sunny skies.
The weekend ahead looks to be okay with a few sprinkles possible Saturday and highs in the low 60s. A few showers south are possible for Sunday as a system moves to our south. It also will be a bit cooler with highs in the low to middle 50s.
There are hints of warmer weather moving in next week with highs in the 70s.
