StormTracker 8: Pleasant for Mother’s Day before a rainy week
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) - Enjoy the beautiful weather this Mother's Day before daily rain chances are with us for the work week. Monday evening through Wednesday will be very wet and we could see localized flooding.
Today will be beautiful for all the moms with highs climbing to near 80. Clouds will continue to thicken as we head later into the day making for mostly cloudy skies.
A weather system will pass to our south bringing more cloud coverage over southern counties which means temperatures will be a bit cooler to our south. We also can't rule out a passing shower or 2 this afternoon for areas south of US-460.
Overnight lows will drop to near 60 under mostly cloudy skies and rain showers will move in. After midnight scattered light rain showers will be around making for a wet morning commute for many tomorrow.
The risk of showers is with us all day Monday and high temperatures will struggle to get out of the lower 70s. Monday night we will likely see a lull in rain before more rain is on the way for Tuesday.
Scattered showers and a few thunderstorms are possible Tuesday with highs in the low to middle 70s. Heavy downpours could lead to localized flooding and ponding on the roadways Tuesday so please be mindful of this.
Rain showers also continue into Wednesday, but they look to be more scattered in nature especially for the later half of the day. High temperatures on Wednesday will be in the upper 70s.
We turn more summer-like for the end of the week with highs back in the 80s and even the low 90s. We will also stay with the risk of a few late day isolated storms thanks to the heat and humidity.
When all is said and done it looks like most of the area will see 2"-4" of rain by the end of the week with locally higher amounts possible. The wettest days look to be Monday evening through Wednesday.
