StormTracker 8: The chill continues

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) --Well chilled sunshine and overnight lows in the single digits for some over the next two days, while the signs are improving for another round of snow to start the weekend off. Clear, calm and cold tonight with the lows falling 9-15. We will have sunshine tomorrow with a few afternoon clouds and highs in the lower to middle 30s. Another cold night for Wednesday into Thursday, with the same overnight lows and highs.    That’s the easy part of the forecast. Ok, now onto the end of the week and the harder part of the forecast.   3 of the long range models, GFS (American), ECMWF (European) and ICON (German) are coming into agreement for a storm to develop along the Gulf Coast region and bring us wintry weather to start the weekend. Now there are still some fine details that need to be worked out amongst them, but as things stand right now and you can expect changes, here is what you need to know.  We will have cold air locked in place—good for snow Warm air aloft may not make it north of US 460-good for snow Heaviest moisture right now is in southern ½ of the state—less snow north of Richmond Swiftly moving storm—would limit accumulations vs the last one that moved slower So here is what happens based on the current models.   Clouds arrive on Friday starting in the afternoon.   Then snow moves in from WSW to ENE during the late evening hours, and into the overnight period. It would be in the overnight hours when the bulk of the snow would fall in out area.   Saturday morning, we have light snow on the northern end of the system and a snow/sleet/ice mix to the south.   Since this storm has a good pace to it, it looks like we are all done and over with by midday. Again, we hare about 84 hours ahead of the storm, so things are likely to change, so stay updated on the forecast.
