StormTracker8: Intense heat, humidity & possible strong storms late today

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) – Today is now day 3 of our current Heat Wave across Central Virginia, and we will see 3 additional days of these dangerous weather conditions as well for the new work week. More on the High Heat and High Humidity below.

After another steamy start to our day this morning under partly sunny skies, we will see very hot and very humid conditions this Sunday afternoon with highs in the middle to upper 90s, heat index values of 105 to 109 degrees once again just like our Saturday. A heat advisory is in effect once again for most of Central Virginia, due to the intense heat and intense humidity. There is additionally an extreme heat warning for southeastern portions of the viewing area today for the possibility of seeing heat index values as high as 110 degrees.

Aside from the dangerous heat and humidity today, we will also see possible strong to severe storms this afternoon and evening. The risks we are monitoring with any storms late today will be damaging winds of 60+ MPH, heavy downpours leading to flash flooding and frequent lightning.

Our Sunday night into Monday morning calls for any ongoing showers and storms to be ending around Midnight tonight, under partly cloudy skies and very muggy temperatures, getting down into the middle 70s.

Monday to kick off the new work week brings us another very hot and very humid day to Central Virginia, with highs in the middle 90s, heat index values of 100 to 105 degrees under partly sunny skies and a possible shower in southern Virginia.

Tuesday and Wednesday of this week will both be very similar across the region, with dangerous heat and humidity persisting, with highs well into the 90s, heat index values of 105 to 109 degrees, likely prompting more heat advisories for portions of the viewing area under partly sunny skies.

Thursday is when we will see a transition from the dangerous heat and humidity, back to below average weather conditions, as a strong cold front will be pushing through the region on Thursday.

Thursday’s forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies, hot temperatures in the lower 90s and scattered showers and storms as humidity levels drop.

Friday will be a mostly cloudy day, highs in the lower to middle 80s, and lingering scattered showers and storms, as we flip our calendars to August.

Preliminarily, next weekend, is looking seasonably cool both days, on the back end of this strong cold frontal passage, with high temperatures rising into the lower to 80s under partly sunny skies and comfortable humidity levels.

TRACKING THE TROPICS – No tropical development is expected over the next 7 days out in the Atlantic Ocean.
