StormTracker8: Showers for Christmas morning followed by late day sun
Richmond, Va. (WRIC) -- Mainly clear skies will be with us this evening, however clouds will begin to increase around midnight and by early Christmas morning we will have cloudy skies, and some showers will develop. There will be a chill in the air for Santa's arrival as our overnight lows fall into the middle to upper 30s.
Christmas Day will start off with some showers but those should end around noon, and we should see some breaks of sun to partly sunny skies by the late afternoon. It will be a seasonably mild day with highs in the middle to upper 50s although some places south of US Highway 460 might touch 60.
A cold or shot of air will slide in on Friday and as a result our high temperatures will only climb into the upper 30s to near 40 under cloudy skies.
If you are traveling on Friday across Central Virginia you can expect a few rain showers along and north of Interstate 64, however if you are traveling toward DC or Philadelphia or toward New York City later Friday evening and Friday night you should prepare for some very wintery weather including freezing rain sleet and snow making for some very treacherous travel either on Interstate 81 into Pennsylvania and southern New York or Interstate 95 north of DC.
Cloudy skies will begin our day on Saturday but the sunshine should return and it will be a seasonably mild day with highs from 50 to 55.
Partly sunny skies will be with us for Sunday with highs in the upper 50s. An arctic front will come sliding in later Sunday night and early Monday morning and bring us the risk of showers.
That front will move through Central Virginia early Monday and our temperatures will fall during the afternoon from the upper 50s in the morning into the lower 40s by Monday evening.
Tuesday will be a chilly day with highs in the middle to upper 30s under mostly sunny skies.
That chilly weather will last for New Year's Eve with highs around 40 under sunny skies.
Another cold front will slide through the region early New Year's Day and that could bring another shot of Colder air so that our high temperatures to start 2026 might only be in the middle 30s under sunny skies.
