Support kids who have experienced abuse with Chesterfield nonprofit’s Superhero 5K
CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A Chesterfield County nonprofit is looking for "superheroes" to lace up for a 5K run to support local children who have experienced abuse.
Chesterfield Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) is a nonprofit organization that trains and supports volunteer advocates. These volunteers then go on to fight for children in Chesterfield's juvenile court system who have experienced abuse and neglect.
"Our goal is to ensure that every child has a safe, permanent and loving home," the nonprofit said in a press release.
On Sunday, Oct. 5, Chesterfield CASA will host its third-annual Superhero 5K Fun Run and Family Festival at Westchester Commons, located at 15786 WC Main St. in the Midlothian area.

This family-friendly event is designed to raise awareness for children who have experienced abuse or neglect in Chesterfield and Colonial Heights.
"Participants of all ages are encouraged to throw on their best superhero costumes and join the race to empower vulnerable children in our community," the nonprofit said.
In addition to the 5K run, there will be a kids' fun run, family-friendly activities, community vendors and appearances from "local superheroes."

All proceeds from the event will support Chesterfield CASA's mission.
“Every child deserves a champion," said Chesterfield CASA's executive director, Patterson Rogers, in the release. "Someone who will stand up, speak out, and stay by their side. The Superhero 5K is a powerful reminder that we can all be heroes for children in foster care, just by showing up and taking one step closer to a brighter future for them.”
The fun run will kick off at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, while the 5K will start at 9 a.m., per the nonprofit. You can register online until Oct. 4, with Early Bird registration available through Sept. 15.
