Suspect charged after road rage shooting on Midlothian Turnpike in Chesterfield

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A man has been charged in connection with a road rage shooting that occurred on Midlothian Turnpike in Chesterfield County in mid-September.

Police said 25-year-old Armardi A. Johnson of Richmond was arrested in the evening on Wednesday, Sept. 24, and charged with aggravated malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, shooting at an occupied vehicle and shooting from a vehicle. He is being held at the Chesterfield County Jail without bond.

This comes after police responded to a reported shooting in the 12200 block of Midlothian Turnpike at about 5:15 p.m. on Sept. 13.

When officers arrived, they found a man with what appeared to be a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

Police said the preliminary investigation indicated that the victim and the suspect, since identified as Johnson, were involved in "some kind of road rage interaction" as they headed west on Midlothian Turnpike toward its intersection with Walmart Way.

According to officials, the suspect vehicle pulled up to the right of the victim's vehicle and the suspect reportedly fired a gun at the victim's vehicle. The victim's vehicle, described as a white Nissan Altima, then fled west on Midlothian Turnpike, police said.

8News spoke to AAA Mid-Atlantic spokesperson Morgan Dean following the road rage incident, who gave advice to anyone who may experience a similar situation. He said calling the police is always an option, but going to a public place may also be helpful.

“If you feel like this person is targeting you or following you, or trying to do something aggressively where they might be hitting your car or tailgating you, go to a public place,” he said.

Dean further advised being cautious when driving past two drivers involved in a road rage incident.

Police continue to investigate. Anyone with information is asked to call the Chesterfield County Police Department at 804-748-1251.
