Suspect dead, deputy injured after high-speed chase ends in shooting in Nottoway

NOTTOWAY COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A suspect is dead and a Nottoway County Sheriff's Office deputy is injured after a shooting on Saturday morning following a high-speed chase.
Just after 5 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 16, a deputy with the Amelia County Sheriff's Office tried to stop a 2005 Toyota Tacoma exceeding 100 mph in a posted 55 mph zone on Route 360 in Amelia.
The driver did not stop, and authorities initiated a pursuit. Soon after, a Virginia State Police trooper and multiple deputies with the Nottoway County Sheriff's Office joined the pursuit.

The truck reached the intersection of Rocky Hill Road and eastbound Route 460 when it ran off the side of the road and into the woods.
According to police, the driver ran away into the woods and was chased by deputies and the state trooper.
The suspect was then shot and killed by officials, and a Nottoway County Sheriff's Office deputy was shot in the hand and taken to a local hospital.
The Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s Richmond Field Office is still on scene investigating.
Agents are working to identify the suspect and notify next of kin, according to police.
