‘Targeted act of violence’: Deputies say individuals in August shooting in Fluvanna knew each other

FLUVANNA COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Fluvanna County deputies confirmed on Friday that an August shooting is now believed to be "a targeted act of violence between individuals who knew each other" and not a carjacking.
On Friday, Oct. 3, the Fluvanna County Sheriff's Office deputies announced the unidentified victim, who sustained multiple gunshot wounds, is recovering and cooperating with authorities. A suspect -- Brando Carter -- remains in custody following the Aug. 28 incident, where a man was shot and a truck was stolen in Fluvanna County.
"Evidence appears to confirm this was a targeted act of violence between individuals who knew one another, not a carjacking as initially reported," authorities said.
At 4:12 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 28, deputies responded to the 5500 block of Rolling Road South after a 911 caller said he had been shot.
The suspected crime scene was located in the Dixie area and was processed early in the investigation, according to police.
When they arrived, deputies found a man who had been shot multiple times. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
The man told deputies in August that his truck was stolen during the incident.
Carter remains in custody at the Albemarle Charlottesville Regional Jail, according to police.
"The Sheriff’s Office wants to reassure residents that this was not a random act of violence and is not related to the other shooting currently under investigation," authorities said. "There is no indication of an ongoing threat to public safety."
This remains an active investigation.
