Teen, juvenile arrested after vehicle theft led to police pursuit in Petersburg

PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) -- The Petersburg Bureau of Police arrested a teen and a juvenile in connection to a vehicle theft that led to a police pursuit on Friday.

On Friday, May 2, Petersburg police received a report of a vehicle that was stolen from a business in the 2900 block of South Crater Road.

According to police, officers saw two males inside the stolen vehicle, and when they attempted to approach it, the driver drove away, leading to a pursuit.

The pursuit ended at the intersection of Van Dorn Street and South Boulevard, where police then arrested both the driver -- a 15-year-old -- and a passenger -- a 12-year-old who officials said is one of the suspects recently arrested in connection to burglaries.

The 15-year-old was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, eluding the police, reckless driving and possession of burglary tools. The 12-year-old was charged with possession of burglary tools. Both are currently being held in a juvenile detention facility.
