‘The end of an era’: Richmond’s Fan Tastic Thrift Store permanently closes
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Fan Tastic Thrift Store on Richmond's Main Street has permanently closed, and the property is now on sale.
The store, located at 1914 W. Main Street in Richmond's Fan District, sold used clothing, shoes, and home goods for years.
On Tuesday, Sept. 30, a sign was visible on the store's door confirming the closure, which suggested that shoppers instead visit another thrift store along Midlothian Turnpike in Richmond's Southside, near the city's border with Chesterfield County.
"This store is permanently closed," the sign said. "Please visit us at Family Thrift Center 5432 Midlothian Turnpike."

One nearby resident, who said she had frequented the store for decades for lower-cost options, said she was in shock and called the closure "the end of an era."
8News observed the arrival of many other shoppers who were also surprised to see the sign announcing the closure.

The city assessed the property's value at about $1.8 million, according to property records.
The larger property, which includes the store, the space next door at 1912 W. Main St., and the 41-space parking lot, is currently on sale.
Employees working at the store declined to speak with 8News when asked. 8News has reached out to the broker for comment on the closure.
