The Park at River City Sportsplex to break ground Thursday
CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Chesterfield County will break ground on the county's largest sporting complex at the River City Sportsplex facility Thursday afternoon.
The Park at River City Sportsplex recreational area, a destination playground and spray park, will begin its upgrade at 3 p.m. on Thursday, March 13, and will open during the summer of 2026 in Midlothian.
According to the Chesterfield County Parks and Recreation Department, the new "park within a park" will "highlight the James River ecosystem, and will be anchored by an accessible climbing structure shaped to resemble a great blue heron."
The county's website states that the Park at River City Sportsplex is funded from the 2022 bond referendum.
