‘They have abandoned us’: Central Virginians brace for more snow with previous ice still on the ground
CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Residents across central Virginia have been hit with lingering icy and slick streets and sidewalks. And with more winter weather on the way, they're worried about how long it'll stick around.
"This is the hard part though because it's so slippery and icy it's like I don't know how I'm gonna get like leverage," Caroline Pancito said while trying to dig her car out for the first time since the snow came down five days prior.
She parked in front of her sister's home on a steep hill off Chesterfield's Otterdale Road. She said she watched others slipping and sliding down all week.
For the first time, on Thursday, Jan. 29, sand was put down.
In Richmond, officials announced 700 West 26th Street and 2900 East Franklin Street are closed indefinitely. On Franklin Street, cars have been stranded, unable to get up the slippery hill. Some have even hit one other.

The city has closed part of Franklin Street for the time being.

Cars have been stranded on Franklin Street.
And in Henrico, longtime resident of Tuckahoe Carol Joyce is disappointed the county hasn't provided more assistance.

Ice still coats Carol Joyce's Tuckahoe neighborhood.
"This has been the worst in 20 years, to the best of my memory," she said. "They have explained that this is a unique situation and they've done their best, but they have abandoned us."
Joyce stepped outside of the house for the first time since Saturday on Thursday, her driveway still coated in a thick layer of ice.
She said a friend is taking her to get groceries as more winter weather is approaching.
"My plans are to not leave this front porch," she said. "Cause, you know, if I fall it's gonna be a really bad situation for me."
Our StormTracker8 team is predicting two to four inches of snow over the weekend in the metro Richmond area.
