Three firefighters injured due to heat, cats killed after house fire in Chesterfield

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Three firefighters were reportedly injured due to heat after a house fire in Chesterfield County Thursday morning.

According to Chesterfield Fire and EMS, one firefighter was treated on scene for their heat-related injuries -- two of them were later taken to the hospital in a house fire on Thursday, July 17.

One person was also treated on scene for smoke inhalation, according to Chesterfield and EMS. Two cats were also found dead inside the house.

The spokesperson added that due to the heat, they did send "extra resources," which included the Medical Services Unit.

Two people were displaced and are currently being assisted by the Red Cross, according to authorities. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
