Three former Virginia Beach deputies indicted for in-custody death of inmate
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) -- Three former Virginia Beach Sheriff's Office deputies were indicted for the in-custody death of Rolin Hill that occurred in June of 2024. Commonwealth's Attorney for the city of Virginia Beach, Colin D. Stolle, announced Friday that Kevin B. Wilson, Michael C. Kidd and Eric G. Baptiste were charged with second-degree murder. Baptiste was additionally charged with five counts of assault and battery, while Kidd was charged with two counts of assault and battery. Over the course of several weeks, the Special Grand Jury met on three separate occasions and heard evidence pertaining to Hill's arrest and booking into the Virginia Beach Correctional Center. At the conclusion of their meeting Friday, the Special Grand Jury returned the aforementioned indictments. “My most heartfelt sympathies are with the Hill family as they mourn the tragic loss of Rolin,”Stolle said. “I continue to ask for the public’s patience as this case moves through the courtprocess. As in all cases involving the tragic loss of life, my office is committed to seeking justicefor Rolin Hill.” Virginia Beach Sheriff Rocky Holcomb released a statement following the indictment, which can be read in full below: I have faith in the criminal justice system to ensure justice is served for both Rolin Hill and the individuals involved in this incident. For that reason, I requested an independent, third-party investigation by Virginia State Police immediately upon being notified of what occurred and cooperated fully with that investigation. That investigation ultimately led to the charging decision announced by the Virginia Beach Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office today. I remain committed to transparency and accountability with the community. However, due to the pending criminal proceedings and the need to protect the integrity of those proceedings, I cannot release additional information about this incident at this time. My heart continues to be with the family of Mr. Hill and I send them my sincerest condolences and support as they seek healing and justice.
