Three people displaced after Richmond house fire

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Three people were displaced after a fire significantly damaged a home in Richmond on Wednesday.

Just after 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18, crews with the Richmond Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 1300 block of Mt. Erin Drive.

The fire caused significant damage to the home, officials said.

While no one was hurt, this damage displaced the home's three residents, who reportedly were alerted to the fire by the smoke detector installed by the Richmond fire Department.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, though fire officials urge homeowners to test their smoke detectors.

"RFD encourages all residents to ensure they have working smoke detectors on every level of their home and to test them regularly," a spokesperson with the fire department said.
