Three-year-old colt wins $500,000 at Dominion Derby Day race

NEW KENT, Va. (WRIC) --The Colonial Downs Racetrack saw a new champ crowned at the Old Dominion Derby Saturday, Sept. 6.

Three year old colt, "World Beater" emerged as Saturday's winner beating out seven other horses with a "strong performance" alongside owner Pin Oak Stud LLC, trainer Riley Mott and jockey Jamie Torreson on the wet turf track.

According to the release in earlier races "As Catch Can" won the $250,000 Old Dominion Oaks while world record holder "Doncho" remained dominate at five and a half furlongs in the $150,000 Da Hoss Stakes.

The Old Dominion Derby Day was the final premium racing event of Colonial Downs' 2025 live racing season.

The season will conclude this week with live racing on Wednesday, Sept. 10 through Saturday, Sept. 13, according to Colonial Downs.

General admission will be free for all remaining races, however box, indoor and suite tickets will be available on the Colonial Downs website.
