Tips on how to stay warm when the power goes out

HOPEWELL, Va. (WRIC) -- The City of Hopewell has shared tips on ways to stay warm when the power goes out.

On Jan. 25, Hopewell posted tips on ways to help keep warm even if the power goes out in your home.

To preserve heat, it is recommended to do the following:

  • Close all blinds and curtains near windows.
  • Avoid wasting heat by closing off rooms.
  • Wear multiple layers of loose-fitting, lightweight warm clothing.
  • Remember to eat and drink since food provides energy to warm the body, but avoid caffeine and alcohol.
  • Try to stuff towels or rags under the cracks of doors.
