Tractor-trailer crash spills metal beams across I-95 South in Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- A tractor-trailer crash has caused delays for drivers on Interstate 95 South near Belvidere Street in Richmond Monday morning.

At 6:39 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 22, Virginia State Police troopers responded to a crash involving a box truck and a tractor-trailer in the southbound lanes of I-95 near the Belvidere Street exit in Richmond.

Police said preliminary information indicates that a box truck hit the center jersey wall and came to rest against it. As a result of the crash, police said the tractor-trailer overturned.

The tractor-trailer was reportedly transporting around 40,000 pounds of steel or aluminum beams, according to police, which then spilled across all southbound lanes.

As of reporting, all southbound lanes were closed near Belvidere Street as crews worked to clear the road and remove the spilled metal beams.

The driver of the box truck was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.
