Trees come down across Central Virginia, fire and rescue teams urge caution
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Trees have come down in multiple counties throughout the Central Virginia region on Wednesday due to winter weather, with fire and rescue teams responding and urging caution to drivers.
Chesterfield County Fire and EMS posted to Facebook about downed trees and powerlines happening throughout the day on Wednesday, Feb. 12. They said crews have responded to "dozens of calls" regarding trees that have fallen onto roads as well as homes.

What should you do if you see a downed power line in Virginia?
StormTracker8 Meteorologist Matt DiNardo said that one of the main reasons for this increase in downed trees is ice on the branches. The trees become heavier, and especially with softer trees like pines, they come down a lot faster.

The Henrico County Public Works & Public Utilities department also made a post to Facebook on Wednesday, stating that they are in the process of "clearing hundreds of trees" from county roads. People can report downed trees in Henrico by calling 804-501-4393.

Additionally, there have been several trees that have gone down in Powhatan County, as seen in a post from their fire and rescue Facebook page. While they did not provide a number to report them to, they are advising residents to slow down and be aware.
If you see a tree down in a roadway or on a residence, you can report it to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) at 1-800-367-7623. If you see a downed powerline, stay away from it and report it to Dominion Energy at 1-866-366-4357.
