Two men arrested after alleged possession of child sexual abuse material in Buckingham

BUCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Two men were arrested for separate investigations of alleged possession of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) in Buckingham County.
On Wednesday, Oct. 8, the Buckingham County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of two men -- Carl Wayne Potts and James Carl Lawrence Jr. -- who are facing a combined 17 child sex abuse charges.
According to the sheriff's office, on Thursday, Sept. 18, deputies and Virginia State Police troopers executed a search warrant in the 3000 block of S. Constitution Route in Buckingham's Dillwyn area.
Potts was taken into custody and served 13 felony warrants for possession of CSAM.
Two weeks later, on Thursday, Oct. 2, and Friday, Oct. 3, the Buckingham County Sheriff’s Office executed multiple search warrants in the 100 block of Dunkums Court in the county's New Canton area.
Lawrence Jr. was taken into custody and faces four felony warrants for possession of CSAM.
According to the sheriff's office, both of these cases began as a CyberTip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).
No further details are available as of the time of reporting.
The sheriff's office continues to investigate, and said they have two investigators assigned to the Southern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force in connection with these incidents.
