Two men who shot Hanover horse in face to serve combined 15 years in prison
HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Two men convicted of shooting a 19-year-old Hanover County horse named Jake in Oct. 2023 were sentenced to over 30 years in prison each -- though they will only spend a portion of those sentences behind bars. In a Dec. 20 press release, the Hanover County Sheriff's Office announced the sentencings of 21-year-old Jacob Brady of Richmond and 19-year-old Robert Kelley, Jr. of Chesterfield County in connection to Jake's maiming. On Oct. 17, 2023, the 19-year-old American Paint hose was grazing on his owner's property in the 11200 block of Cauthorne Road when Brady and Kelly shot him, hitting him between his jaw and eye. They were charged in connection to both investigations and their sentences were handed down on Dec. 9 and in the month of October, respectively. According to court records, they both were also put on indefinite probationary supervision.
