Two people displaced after Chesterfield house fire caused by faulty circuit

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Two people and a dog were displaced following a house fire caused by a faulty circuit in Chesterfield on Tuesday morning.

At 7 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 30, Chesterfield County Fire and EMS responded to a house fire call in the 1200 block of Salisbury Drive.

When firefighters arrived, they found smoke and fire coming from the back of the home. Officials said they were able to get the fire under control in around 45 minutes.

8News spoke with Deputy Fire Marshal Joe Harvey about the incident, who said that the fire was caused by a faulty electrical circuit.

While there were two people and a dog inside the home at the time of the fire, no injuries have been reported and everyone inside the house was able to make it out safely.

Both people have been displaced, but the house has not been ruled a total loss, officials said.

A family member of the victims said that neighbors were on their way to work and saw flames from behind the house, eventually banging on the door and telling the people inside to get out.
