Two seriously hurt after 3-vehicle crash in Chesterfield

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Two people are seriously hurt after a three-vehicle crash in Chesterfield County on Wednesday, per fire officials.

At about 5:41 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 17, troopers with Virginia State Police were called to northbound Route 288 near Bailey Bridge Road for report of a three-vehicle crash.

Details on this crash are limited at this time, but Chesterfield Fire and EMS told 8News that a total of five people were taken to the hospital with injuries. Two of them have serious injuries.

As of 6:57 p.m., all northbound lanes are closed and traffic is backed up about three miles, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). Drivers are being detoured at Courthouse Road.

According to state police, these closures are in place to allow wreckers to clear the scene of the crash.

Chesterfield Fire said the roadway will likely remain closed until about 8 p.m. Wednesday.
