‘Unfounded’ bomb threat made to Pocahontas Landmark Center from overseas IP address
POWHATAN COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A bomb threat was reported for Pocahontas Landmark Center (PLC) on Monday morning, which officials say came from an overseas IP address.
According to Powhatan County's public schools and sheriff's office, the sheriff's office was notified by the school division at 8:15 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 20 after a message was received at the PLC "indicating a possible explosive device on the campus."
Members of the sheriff's office and Virginia State Police utilized explosive detection K-9 units to search all of the school division's buildings -- all of which were cleared -- and it was determined that the threat was unfounded.
The investigation indicates that the message originated from an IP address overseas.
Officials said that "law enforcement agencies have reported similar threats made to K-12 school divisions and college campuses across Virginia and the United States over the past year and multiple school divisions today."
