University detectives believe the suspect allegedly cut or removed cable locks securing the e-bikes to the racks.

The first incident occurred on Feb. 26 at 11:49 a.m. when a navy blue Aventon e-bike was taken from the bike rack at 1000 E. Broad St. outside the Children’s Hospital of Richmond.

The other incident occurred on March 1 at 4:33 p.m. when a white Aventon e-bike was taken from the bike rack at 1201 E. Marshall St. outside McGlothlin Medical Education Center.

To prevent bicycle and scooter theft, VCU Police warns people to do the following:

  • Register your bicycle or scooter with the University
  • Use a U-lock to secure the bicycle or scooter to prevent them from breaking
  • Move your bicycle or scooter regularly to prevent thieves from thinking it is abandoned
  • Check on the bicycle or scooter regularly when leaving it out of your view for an extended period
